BOTOX

Woman receiving Botox injectionYour skin is exposed to a lot. Not only does it have to deal with the natural aging process, but it is also subject to sun, heat, cold temperatures, harsh winds, and all kinds of atmospheric impurities. These external factors can expedite the aging process, adding years to your appearance. In addition to affecting your facial aesthetics, the fine lines and wrinkles that form on your face can also significantly impact your confidence. Mor Smiles can reduce and eliminate the appearance of lines and wrinkles with Botox.

What is Botox?

Botox is a form of botulinum toxin A. It is a neurotoxin that is derived from the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. A purified protein, Botox has been approved for use by the FDA to provide treatment for fine lines and wrinkles. It is a liquid treatment that we inject strategically into the skin to reduce, and even eliminate, the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, smoothing and refreshing your appearance.

What Can Botox Treat?

Botox is typically used as a cosmetic treatment and can be used to treat some different issues. With Botox, we can treat:
•  Lines on the forehead.
•  Lines around your eyes.
•  Lines around, and on, your lips.

While commonly used to treat cosmetic issues, Botox also serves a few medical purposes as well. It can be used to treat issues such as:
•  Muscle spasms.
•  Excessive sweating.
•  Migraines.
•  TMJ disorder.

How Does Botox Work?

Treatment with Botox is quick, simple, and virtually painless. A fine tipped needle containing Botox is used to inject it into your skin. You might experience slight discomfort or a pinch when the needle is first inserted. Once in the skin, the Botox goes to work blocking the signals from nerves that trigger specific facial muscles from contracting. The continued contraction of these muscles plays a significant role in the formation of unwanted lines and wrinkles. When the nerves are unable to contract, the skin smooths out, and the appearance of these lines and wrinkles diminishes. They may even disappear altogether.

The entire process for Botox injections takes about 20 minutes of your time. You may notice some bruising at the injection sites, but this discoloration typically disappears in just a few days. You should see the results of your Botox treatment in just three to seven days.

Is Botox Safe?

In short, yes. Botox is FDA approved and both very safe and very effective. Even so, there are still some risks involved, as there are with any other treatments. These risks include drooping muscles, freezing muscles, and facial asymmetry. More serious, but rare, risks include difficulty speaking, swallowing, and breathing. We are experts in Botox injections and can provide you with the treatment you need to provide you with the best possible results while minimizing your risks.

Is Botox Permanent?

Botox is not permanent. Typically, the results last about three to four months. As the effects wear off, the signals from nerves are restored to your treated muscles, which allows them to contract again. When this happens, fine lines and wrinkles can reappear. Regular injections will help to ensure that your results last.

Using Botox to Treat TMJ

Botox may be commonly used for cosmetic purposes, but it is also an effective treatment for temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) and bruxism as well. When you have bruxism, you grind and clench your teeth. This continued grinding and clenching can lead to significant pain in your jaw and temporomandibular joints and TMJ disorder. This pain can interfere with normal functions of your mouth, making even the simplest movements difficult. Strategically injected, Botox can weaken the nerves that trigger your mouth to grind and clench. This helps to put a stop to bruxism, which then alleviates your pain and restores your quality of life.

Botox can help to reduce, and even eliminate, the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, giving you a more youthful, vibrant appearance. For more information, and to schedule your consultation, call Mor Smiles today at 223-258-5088.
